Course Highlights

The MRes course in Biological Sciences allows you to carry out an extensive Master's-level research project alongside two taught modules. You will have the opportunity to develop research and project management skills, as well as building your knowledge and experience in your chosen subject area.

Our School has expertise across the field of Biological Sciences. This includes a whole organism focus with research in Conservation Ecology, Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare. We also offer a range of laboratory-focused research, including projects involving Conservation Genetics, Bio-veterinary Science and Molecular Biology. Our projects often involve external partners, allowing students to develop wider links in their chosen sector as well as bringing additional expertise to the project teams.

Learning Structure

Teaching
  • Teaching can be delivered via lectures, laboratory practical classes, field trips and seminars, supplemented by online material such as discussion boards and analytical exercises. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to departmental research seminars, a journal club and tutorials.
Assessment
  • Taught modules are assessed via coursework assignments. The dissertation project culminates in the production of a paper suitable for submission for peer reviewed publication.

Entry Requirements

  • 4-year Bachelor's degree in any relevant discipline with CGPA 3.00 or 65% of marks (or above) from recognised institution.

    CGPA 2.75 is acceptable of the following universities:

    2. BRAC University
    3. Independent University Bangladesh (IUB)
    4. American International University Bangladesh (AIUB)
    5. Asian University for Women (AUW)
    6. Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP)
  • A 2:1 honours degree in any relevant discipline.
  • A 2:2 honours degree will only be considered in combination with extensive relevant experience.
  • A demonstration at interview that students are prepared for study at MRes level is required.
