Course Highlights

This course focuses on applied and computational Mathematics, which is the team's research specialism and a skill set highly valued by employers. You will have the opportunity to develop subject-specific skills (applicable in, for example, the biosciences, finance sector and engineering) and key transferable skills (including IT, problem solving and written and oral communication).

The course is together a course to cater for the needs of both Single Honours Mathematics graduates and graduates who have studied Mathematics as part of a degree – for example, you may have studied Mathematics as part of a joint honours course or as part of a physics-related degree.

You will have the opportunity to work on projects directly linked to the degree team’s own research, which includes work of both a theoretical and practical nature. You will also have access to specialist mathematics computing facilities and a well-stocked library, including electronic resources.

The Professional Project MSc is your chance to get the experience you need to stand out to graduate employers and make a difference by solving real global business challenges and demonstrating practical application of your learning. Prepare for the future by reflecting on your experience and the enhanced skills that you have gained.

In the first year you will have help from the University to find a professional project whilst developing your expertise in the taught modules of your degree. You will then spend your second year working on a client-led project, getting the chance to work with industry professionals and building your contacts.

Students need to find and secure their own project, supported by the University. A preparation module will also help you to get ready for your project and develop your professional skills.

Learning Structure

Teaching

• We employ a variety of study methods, such as lectures, tutorials (including one-to-one), problem-solving classes and workshops.

Assessment

• Assessment is through a combination of examination and coursework, including worksheets, investigations and small projects. Your dissertation will give you the opportunity to work on a larger research project.

Entry Requirements

• 4-year Bachelor's degree in Mathematics-related discipline with CGPA 2.75 or 60% of marks (or above) from recognised institution.

  CGPA 2.50 is acceptable of the following universities:

• A 2:2 or above honours degree in Mathematics-related discipline.
